It’s important this is done soon after the loss of the device so therapeutic progress is not hindered.

Pain occurs when the appliance is worn: There is an adjustment period when devices are first worn that may lead to mild discomfort. This is because of the dynamic nature of the treatments: teeth are moving, jaw bone is at times being remodeled, and muscles are being reprogramed. The discomfort usually abates following a certain wear time; however, should you continue to have pain, we ask that you call our office to schedule a new appointment.

The appliance does not fit anymore: Following modification of a device’s clasps, screws, or springs by your physician, it may take time for it to feel as though it ‘fits’ perfectly. However, should a device not fit due to a lapse of time between uses, please contact our office for a new appointment so we may adjust your device.

Fixed braces

Braces cause gum and mouth irritation: At the beginning of treatment with fixed braces, thin wires are used to gently guide teeth and reduce the pressure sensation. However, it is possible that the wire can slip from the brace and irritate the gum. If this were to occur, you should make an appointment with your orthodontist. Until the appointment, you can cover the exposed wire with orthodontic wax. Orthodontic wax can also be used at any time during treatment should the regular hardware (such as hooks or wires) come into contact with the gum and cause irritation.

Feeling of pressure or moderate pain after bonding fixed braces: Sometimes pressure or pain can occur after the braces are initially placed or after changing the wires during the phase of treatment. Usually the pain resolves after a brief period; however, in severe cases, mild analgesics may be used. Should the pain persist, we recommend contacting your orthodontist.

Braces or metal bands are loose: Because of the way braces are designed, pieces will remain attached to the wire even if they become loose; there is therefore no way loose pieces can be swallowed. However, you should contact your orthodontist for an appointment so the loose pieces can be rebound, as the pieces need to be fixed to the tooth for the braces to properly move the teeth.

Did you forgot how to wear your elastics? There is no need to worry! Our friendly employees are here to help should you have any questions.

BioBiteCorrector
If the telescopic bar on the BioBiteCorrector becomes loose on one or both sides, you need to schedule an appointment with your orthodontist for it to be corrected. If they disengage completely, do not throw them away. Please bring them to your next appointment.

Rapid palatal expansion

If pieces of the appliance (for example, the metal bands) become loose, treatment progress can be hindered. It is very important to contact your orthodontist immediately to schedule an appointment at which time the appliance will be cleaned and appropriately rebound.

The appliance cannot be “activated” or severe pain occurs: A sensation of pressure or moderate pain can occur following treatment initiation. Should you continue to have pain after 7 days, or should the pain worsen during this period, you should contact your orthodontist for an appointment.

Please know that our employees are available to help answer any questions you may have about the functioning of any appliances.

Aligner

An aligner gets lost or broken: Please contact our office should your aligner get lost or broken and we will guide you as to the next best step. Usually we will have you wear the most recent aligner, or the next set of aligners (depending on where you are in treatment), while your orthodontist orders a replacement set.

A part of the aligner pokes into the gum: Should you still feel gum irritation after treatment initiation following the expected acclimation time specified by your physician, please contact our office and we will schedule you for an appointment.

An attachment gets lost or broken: For each tooth, there are numerous plastic parts with various shapes, each having its own function and role in treatment. If a piece gets lost or broken, please contact your orthodontist immediately so it may be replaced and not hinder treatment.

Fixed Retainer
If the retainer gets lost, broken or doesn’t fit properly (for example, if it feels loose), contact your orthodontist immediately for an appointment so that it may be replaced. A properly fitting retainer is very important in ensuring the teeth maintain their appropriate position following completion of treatment. Additionally, during the bridging period, the most recent set of prescribed aligners or the removable retainer should be worn nightly until the next appointment.

Headgear / Facemask
If any headgear or facemasks don’t fit properly, please do not try to correct the problem yourself, as this can damage parts of the appliance. Our office will be glad to schedule an appointment to help modify the fitting and ensure it is comfortable and functional.

Removeable Appliance Loss of appliance: If a removable device is lost or misplaced, please notify our office to schedule an […]

["post-1860","page","type-page","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["de","en","ko
["GET
